A woman said she was infected with a sexually transmitted disease after a cleaner at a Houston medical office secretly urinated in her water bottle, according to the authorities.
According to court documents, Lucio Catarino Diaz was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. 11 additional victims have come forward after the woman’s allegations against Diaz and are undergoing STD testing.
The woman told Houston Police Department investigators that she started bringing a water bottle to work every day after purchasing a bottle from an office dispenser in August that smelled and tasted weird.
She also mentioned that she would leave the bottle at her work place for the next day if she didn’t finish it during her shift. She noticed that after a few days of drinking from a bottle at home, the bottle began to smell and taste weird too, but she couldn’t figure out what it was.
A coworker offered to make coffee for the victim in September, so she requested that they use water from her bottle instead. Her coworker examined her bottle and asked why it was yellow.
“I was disgusted, so I raised it to my face and smelled it; it smelled like urine,” the victim said.
A urinalysis was performed by a doctor who works in the establishment. The doctor confirmed it was urine. According to the doctor, the cleaner was most likely to be responsible. The victim then told his coworkers what had happened, and one of them said they had gone through the same thing.
In the hopes of catching the perpetrator, the woman installed a camera in her office. Diaz was then caught on camera entering her office and rubbing his genitals on her water bottle.
The next day, she called the cops and handed over the video and two water bottles. When questioned by police, Diaz admitted to the allegations. He told cops he did it with “malicious intent.” He also admitted to similar behavior at a previous job.
This is not Lucio Catarino Diaz’s first time
Diaz claimed he couldn’t remember how many times he had done this and that he was unaware he had any diseases. The victim had contracted an STD, according to lab results. Diaz tested positive for the same disease as well as another.
Kim Spurlock, the victim’s attorney, said, “It’s truly disgusting, and my client will bear the consequences of this man’s actions for the rest of her life.”
Spurlock said she plans to sue building management and others who she claims ignored the victim’s initial concerns. As of this moment, it is unknown whether any other victims have tested positive for an STD.
